A very quick history of tea : ) It is likely that the Chinese discovered tea thousands of years ago where it was taken as a medicinal drink. The Chinese were also known to use herbs in teas for medicinal purposes, we now know this as a component of Traditional Chinese Medicine.

Teas made without caffeinated tea leaves, using just herbs, flowers and roots are known as Tisanes.

The word Tisane originates from Greece and relates to a drink made from pearl barley, which is similar to barley water.

Here in Australia, Captain Cook first noticed Aboriginal Australians drinking an infusion from the plant species Leptospermum. Cook then simply called it tea, today the plant is known as ti tree. Caffinated tea as we know it was introduced to Australia by the British, It was in fact aboard the First Fleet in 1788.

Its a large part of the Australian modern culture, and in the modern day of health and wellbeing Herbal Tea’s are becoming increasingly popular too!

Being a kitchen witch at heart I like blends that work in with the seasons. Chakra Shala Teas often include the following ‘base’ herbs’, I then offer blends that include other herbs that I feel are appropriate for the season. Popular blends mentioned above are available year round!

– Rooibos (Aspalathus linearis) also known as Red Bush. Rooibos is a red plant mainly grown in South Africa. As a fresh leaf, rooibos has a high content of ascorbic acid. Rooibos tea does not contain caffeine and has low tannin levels compared to black tea or green tea. Rooibos contains polyphenols, including flavanols, flavones, flavanones. It is a great ‘tea leaf’ alternative with a similar taste to ‘tea’ as we know it.

– Chamomile (Matricaria chamomilla) Chamomile has been shown to have anti inflammatory chemical components.

– Nettle, (Urtica dioica) Nettle leaf extract contains active compounds that reduce inflammatory cytokines.

– Rose Petals (Rosa Centifolia) Well, we all know that Roses are the flower of love! So why not put a little in your tea cup! I am a big fan of teas that contain these beautiful petals of love.

I have so much more to share with you! So why not come and find me at a local market, circle or gathering? Come and taste a tea or two and learn a little more!  My teas are now being stocked in various outlets in the area, contact me for further details.

I look forward to meeting and sipping tea with you soon!

Peace, Love & Tea!

    Hi Jenna,

Last year my wife brought home (Canberra) some tea she purchased from you at the Moruya markets for me to try as I like to try different herbal and black teas – particularly something different from the usual. The tea she bought home was called Witches Brew and was the best tasting tea I have tried in many years. I had no knowledge of red rooibos but found the flavors in this tea were strong and tasty. The taste of cinnamon (a favorite of mine) and cloves was very enjoyable and I think this tea also helped me overcome a bad head cold I was suffering from at the time.
I would like to buy more of this tea but could not see it listed on your site – do you still make it?

    Cheers for now

Thank you Tony for the lovely review!
Its lovely to hear the tea worked for your head cold, cloves, cinnamon and orange are great at such times! The tea was originally made as a one off (for an event I attended, which is why it’s not on the site) but due to its popularity I will be making it a permanent part of my range 🙂 It would be an honour to post some more to you! I will contact you via email with packet sizes and approx postage later today,
      Blessings to you both
      Jenna 🙂
